Starting with a relaxing break on Waiheke Island, you'll explore the boutique wineries on this balmy island. You then journey south for a Coromandel Wilderness Adventure, Maori culture in Rotorua and the majestic mountains of Tongariro National Park as you hike the renowned Tongariro Crossing.
Day 1: Welcome to Auckland
On arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your city hotel. A tour pack that includes everything you need for your trip will be handed to you.
Day 2: Waiheke Island
Take a scenic approximately 40-minute cruise through the Hauraki Gulf between the Auckland downtown ferry terminal and Matiatia Wharf on Waiheke Island. You will visit three of Waiheke’s top vineyards and sample a range of their wines. Along the way enjoy a commentated scenic drive, learning about the Island’s history, geography, people and culture from your knowledgeable local guide.
Day 3: Auckland - Coromandel
Collect your rental car and travel to the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. If time allows, stop at the quirky Driving Creek Railway.
Day 4: Wilderness Adventure Day Walk
Explore the Coromandel Peninsula wilderness on this guided walk with a picnic lunch provided. Ideal for those who enjoy walking and photography.
Day 5: Coromandel - Rotorua
Travel along the Bay of Plenty before trning inland towards the lakes of Rotorua. If Lord of the Rings is your thing take a detour along State Highway 29 to Matamata, home to the fictional Tolkien village, Hobbiton. As you arrive into Rotorua take in the spectacular lake views along with clouds of steam rising from multiple geysers across the region.
Day 6: At Rotorua
Explore the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua. This evening visit Mitai Maori Village for a cultural performance and traditionally cooked Hangi meal.
Day 7: Rotorua - National Park
It's a short drive to Lake Taupo, then follow the lake edge towards Tongariro National Park. Your accommodation for two nights is at the grand old lady "Bayview Chateau Tongariro".
Day 8: Tongariro Crossing
Take on one of the world's greatest 1 day walks, the Tongariro Crossing. For this exclusive guided trip you'll be provided with a really personal, informative and friendly day you will never forget.
Day 9: National Park - Waitomo
Head through National Park and across rich rolling farmland to the limestone regions of Waitomo and the famous Waitomo Caves complex. You'll travel deep underground through the limestone caves viewing stalactites and stalagmites as well as hearing about the caves historical and geological significance. You'll then hop into a boat and glide silently through the glow worm grotto - a galaxy of tiny living lights.
Day 10: Waitomo - Auckland
Return to Auckland, where you can explore further if time allows before departing for home.
