Escape to the tranquil lush rolling hills of the Hobbiton movie set (2 hrs drive south of Auckland, 1 hr west of Rotorua). Daily tours are available to visit the original Hobbiton village set from The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

Tours start with a drive through a picturesque working sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges.  Your tour guide will escort you through the ten acres site recounting fascinating details on how the Hobbiton set was created.  The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon Inn, mill and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-earth.

Tours are approx. 2.5 hrs in duration & leave from the Matamata Information Centre at 9.30am, 10.45am, 12.00pm, 1.15pm & 2.30pm.  Additional tours available in summer months.
